Located in Fort Myers, Florida, Medical Anesthesia and Pain Management Consultants (MAPMC) is made up of 24 MD’s and 56 CRNA’s, and provides services to three local hospitals and a surgery center.

Prior to implementing OpenTempo, their anesthesia scheduling solution could not merge the schedules of their anesthesiologists with that of their CRNA’s, creating a great deal of redundant effort. Moreover, as their stand-alone time tracking software was not integrated with their scheduling, they also had to manually enter their data into their payroll system.

As a result, clinical staff productivity could only be measured after the fact, and they were losing productive payroll staff time due to the labor-intensive processes necessary to make their disjointed systems work together.

Historically, due to seasonal fluctuations in OR case load, MAPMC has guaranteed their CRNA’s 40-hour work weeks.

As national payroll vendors proved unable to cope with the nuances of CRNA payroll, MAPMC went looking for a better approach.

Integrated Anesthesia Staff Scheduling & Time Tracking

OpenTempo immediately set about integrating their systems. To automate time tracking, time clock kiosks were installed to work in conjunction with OpenTempo’s advanced staff scheduling solution. Then, a custom interface was written to allow MAPMC to import their data directly into their payroll system, accommodating the nuances of the CRNA payroll, including pay variations based on level of call.

By integrating all three systems – time tracking, scheduling, and payroll – MAPMC was able to identify scheduling disparities in real time. This allowed them to place staff forecasted for under-time into additional cases, while relieving staff who were forecasted for overtime. Staff were able to work closer to their scheduled hours and costs for non-worked time were reduced.
